And many more dates followed...

That computer date was a dinner and dance at one of the local ward houses. But, we made it a little more expansive...we first took in much of a BYU basketball game at the Marriott Center, then the dinner/dance, where Kath showed off her "bunny hopping" skills, and then we went to "Heaven Can Wait" at the midnight movie. It was magical.

After that first "computer date", there would be many more, and quickly, we were inseperable. Here is the "thank you" card Rich sent Kathy after the first date. Silly Kitty.

One of our favorite things was to do our grocery shopping together. Smith's Food King on 9th east in Provo was only a couple of blocks from our beloved King Henry Apartments. Smith's was across the street from the Star Palace, a place Rich is proud to have never set foot in, and Stan's Burger place...remember the Chocolate Banana shakes there?

At Smith's, we'd goof up and down the aisles...well, Rich would goof, attention seeker that he was (is), and Kathy would laugh good naturedly. (She took pity on him, recognizing what a lonely soul he was).

Neither of us had a motorized vehicle, so we'd gather up the shopping bags, and treck back home.

Speaking of King Henry, we have another faint memory of a fireside on a Sunday night up at the bishop's home. This was before we ever went out, and because cars were so scarce, roomates of course, piled into whatever and whichever car they could find. We think this may have been the first encounter between us, but for some reason, neither of us has much memory for it, likely because it was dark and because there were at least 9 students crammed into a little sedan(Kath remembers sitting on some guy's lap all the way to the fireside). It wasn't Rich's lap...I'd have remembered that!

  1. Ha ha, that kitty card is so cute and funny! I like these stories of you and Mom first dating! I think it is funny that Smith's used to be called "Smith's Food King".
